Can my fiance start studying at a community college on a Fiance Visa?

Posted by admin on Apr 25, 2009

I am in the process of researching what is better, going straight for the green card or filing for a fiance visa. One of our major problems is not only being together, but also when can my fiance start studying a the local community college. Does he have to wait for his green card or can he do so on a fiance visa?

My husband came on a fiance visa and after we married we went to the local community college to see about classes. They told us that he could go ahead and be admitted as a foreign student and pay the expensive fees that they charge out of country students. They told us as soon as he got his green card he could be admitted just like any other local student and that he would then qualify for pell grant and student loans. Good luck!

try study abroad. contact the local college and find out who they are currently admitting. he might be eligible to live in the United States as a student.

Well, once you've married and filed the paperwork, including the I-485 adjustment of status request and the work authorization request, she can pretty much do whatever she wants, just as any green card holder. So, yes she could study while waiting for them to actually process her green card, which could take quite a while.
